The horse struggled. His hooves flailed and his breath rattled through flared nostrils. The sound of his head as it hit the ground over and over again was more than Jake could stand. Blue tried to get his feet underneath him, but the snow was too deep. The glare ice below allowed no purchase. Covered with white foam he was sweating despite the wind and snow. He’d gone over sideways twice and landed hard. His legs churned in the air and the driving snow.
